ARTS PICNIC ~ August 10, 2010 ~ Kelowna
FREE Music, FREE Interactive Art Experiences!!
The Daily Courier Arts Common – between the Kelowna Art Gallery and the Rotary Centre for the Arts – will come alive from 5 - 9 pm on the evening of Tuesday, August 10, with artists and music.
The Kelowna Art Gallery, along with the Okanagan Symphony and the Rotary Centre for the Arts, presents Arts Picnic, a FREE event with family entertainment for everyone hosted by CBC Daybreak’s Alya Ramadan.
Please join us and bring your friends, family and visitors to sit on the grass or your own picnic blanket and enjoy a full evening of arts activities starting at 5:00 pm with a Community Drumming Circle, followed by an exciting demonstration and hands-on areas with professional visual artists - and an Outdoor Concert by 94 young professional music students of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, who are celebrating their 50th anniversary playing Shostakovich ~ Festive Overture, Kati Agocs ~ Perpetual Summer, R.Strauss ~ Don Juan, and Rimsky-Korsakov ~ Scheherazade. Audience members can augment their home-packed picnics, or simply purchase terrific food from the vendors.
The three partners gratefully acknowledge the City of Kelowna through its Cultural Services Branch, which has supported the event with a $10,000 project grant.
The Cats and The Fiddle Concert ~ Mackie House 100 year Anniversary ~ Vernon

Pile your blankets and chairs and the whole family in your vehicle to enjoy a celebratory concert at this beautiful heritage site on SUNDAY, August 15th at from 4 to 7 pm. Mackie Lake House in Vernon is presenting the Cats and the Fiddle with Manfred and the Lonely ( (Manfred, guitar and Edmund House, bass)
Susan Aylard, Okanagan Symphony Violinist, and her band, the Cats, will entertain you with an eclectic mix of Celtic, Folk and some classical music, in a spectacular open air concert on the lush lawns of the historical Mackie Lake House, with a backdrop of world famous Kalamalka Lake. Classical Guitarist, Manfred Harter, and his accompanist, The Lonely (Edmund House, Bass), will open the concert at 4:00pm . Gates will be open at 3:00 pm.
Tickets are $15 for an adult, $7.50 for children 4 to 12 years of age or $35 for the family. Tickets are available at TicketSeller (250)549-SHOW(7469). This is a fundraiser for the Okanagan Symphony.
