OSO musicians will pair with our OSYO students to entertain our youngest audience members in this engaging series of preschool “cushion concerts”. Each show presents a family of instruments – Strings, Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion in four stories presented by Orff Master and creator Joe Berarducci. Children are actively engaged in these shows and everyone will receive a special colouring book to take home that include the songs they learned. Sign up for all four shows taking place at the Rotary Centre for the Arts in downtown Kelowna.

Please bring your own cushions!
Tickets are $10/adult and $5/child.
2 yrs and under are free.

Just in time for Christmas we bring back Handel’s glorious masterpiece Messiah. Handel’s music brilliantly depicts the moving biblical texts. From the joyful “For Unto us a Child is Born” to the inspiring “Hallelujah Chorus” it is a joy to sing, play and listen to. A quartet of Stellar BC singers join the chorus and the orchestra for this glorious holiday tradition.

The Russians are coming, putting all the colours of the orchestra front and centre. Inspired by his friend’s paintings, Mussorgsky’s epic Pictures at an Exhibition paints these pictures in sound. Originally for piano, Ravel created this version for orchestra which makes the colours of the piece even more vibrant. Pianist Minsoo Sohn brought the house down on his last visit and returns to show off his incredible colour on the piano.

We enter spring with an air of grace in this concert inspired by Italy and the baroque era. Respighi’s Ancient Airs and Dances gives us elegant miniatures inspired by lute songs from a bygone era. Mendelssohn’s most popular symphony brings beautiful Italian nuance to a rigorous Germanic form.We welcome back extraordinary cellists Arnold Choi and Sister Estelle Choi to present two stunning works for cello duo with orchestra. Vivaldi’s Concerto for 2 Cellos which is full of bubbly musical conversation and Aeromancy by Canadian Jocelyn Morlock, a work of great beauty inspired by divination through observing the air around us.

Collaborative partners Ballet Kelowna and the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra (OSO) join forces to present Canadiana Suite: A Sesquicentennial Celebration, a special tribute performance in honour of Canada’s 150th anniversary.  With music arranged for and performed by the OSO, the program celebrates some of Canada’s most important and influential musical icons including R. Murray Schafer, Gordon Lightfoot, and Oscar Peterson. Ballet Kelowna will further ignite the stage with four world premieres from renowned Canadian choreographers Donald Sales, Gioconda Barbuto, Matjash Mrozewski, and Simone Orlando.
