Position: Education & Outreach Coordinator

 

Job Summary
The Education & Outreach Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and administration of all aspects of the education & outreach programs for the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra (OSO).  Such coordination includes, but is not limited to, liaising with Music Director, organizing of musicians, venues, documentation, study guides and collaboration with teachers, schools and instructors.
Qualifications
  • Music education or education background and experience is required (related degree preferred)
  • Strong written and oral communication and personal interaction skills is required
  • Significant experience with Microsoft Office, filing and data entry are required skills
  • Financial overview and marketing & promotional skills are important
  • Grant writing, report writing and study guide creation experience are all important assets
  • Orchestral music background and experience is an asset
  • Experience with a music curriculum is an asset
Hours:

This is a contract part time position with an expected commitment of approximately 800 hours per year, primarily between August and May.  Some weekend and/or evening commitments are expected to attend certain concerts and workshops.

Specific Duties and Oversight
  • Okanagan Symphony Youth Orchestra
    • Registration and participant communication
    • Annual weekend camp organization
    • Coordination of rehearsals & concerts (venues, scheduling, attendance, ticketing, promotion, travel, receptions)
    • Coordination of additional instructional elements
    • Coordination of parent volunteers
  • Education Week School Concerts
    • Promotional information & marketing to schools and homeschools
    • Contacts with schools and teachers
    • Oversees creation and dissemination of Teacher’s Guide
    • Group bookings and invoicing
    • Creates seating and oversees volunteers for implementation for 1000s of students
  • Symphony Storytime (Preschool performances)
    • Liaise with partner daycare and service organizations
    • Liaise with OSO Music Director &personnel manager for musician scheduling and payroll
    • Production of study guides and work book, sourcing costumes and promotional material as necessary
  • Your Symphony at the Library (Family series)
    • Liaise with partner libraries in three communities
    • Liaise with OSO Music Director &personnel manager for musician scheduling and payroll
    • Source instruments for the Instrument Discovery Zoo
  • Middle School Band Clinics and in school trios
    • Organize Trio personnel manager for musician scheduling for OSO and OSYO mentors
    • Book workshop venues
    • Coordinate with music teachers
    • Okanagan performances in middle schools
    • Liaise with OSO
  • Symphony Youth Chorus
    • Assist OSO Music Director with scheduling, venue coordination, communications
  • Guest Artist Workshop/Masterclass
    • Arrange venue
    • Facilitate selection of participants
    • Coordinate at the site
  • General Collaboration with local child, youth and adult musical organizations and educational institutions

 

Preferred start date is December 11, 2017

Salary: Commensurate with experience
