It’s Carnival time. Sensual melodies, syncopated rhythms and colourful instrumentation will make this concert toe-tapping fun. Principal flutist of the VSO, Christie Reside is featured in Rodrigo’s evocative Concierto Pastoral. Inspired by the youth and fire of the El Sistema program in Venezuela, we share our stage with the OSYO for Arturo Marquez’ Danzon No. 2. OlE
Featuring/ Okanagan Youth Symphony Orchestra
Since becoming apart of the Okanagan organization, the OSYO has expanded its player complement to 80 musicians and now has a performance schedule of of nine concerts in their season. The OSYO performs fall and spring programs on its own in each of Kelowna, Penticton, and Vernon Communities as well as appearing in one side-by-side performance with the OSO. Participants range from 10 ti their early 20’s and represent the length of the Okanagan Valley. OSYO rehearsals begin each September with a rehearsal camp weekend, and continue every Sunday through till the final May concert series. Many graduates of our program go on to study music at a university level, and it is our hope we will one day see them back on our stage as a professional OSO musician.
