WHAT’S INTERESTING ABOUT THIS CONCERT?

  • The poem we call Twas the Night Before Christmas is actually titled “A Visit from St. Nicholas” and is largely responsible for some of the modern conceptions of Santa Claus, as well as having a massive impact on the history of Christmas gift giving!
  • Composer Gary Fry was commissioned by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to compose A Child’s Christmas in Wales based on excerpts from Dylan Thomas’ famous recollections of childhood Christmases.
  • Christmas Festival was written as a concert overture when Leroy Anderson was working as arranger and orchestrator for the Boston Pops. Anderson took the most popular and best known Christmas songs of the day and tried to give instrumental treatment to them. It has become a staple in orchestral Christmas repertoire.
