Experience music, friendship, and growth by joining the Okanagan Symphony Youth Orchestra (OSYO) for the 2026-2027 season!
OSYO Audition Requirements
The OSYO is open to players of orchestral instruments including strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Interested students must meet the following requirements to play in the OSYO:
- Students must be between the ages 12–24 and consider themselves to be self-motivated,
- String players must have completed level 6 Practical RCM exam or be playing in Suzuki book 5,
- Woodwind, brass and percussion players must be considered a top player by their band or private teacher,
- Students must be able to attend at least 80% of the Sunday afternoon rehearsals in Kelowna.
If you meet all requirements, you are invited to meet and play for Conductor Zeena Zaiyouna.
What to Prepare for the Audition
Please prepare two contrasting solo RCM pieces and two scales of your choice. You will be asked to sight read a short music excerpt. No piano accompaniment will be provided, but you may bring an accompanist if you wish.

Tuition Fees
The tuition for the 2025-2026 OSYO program year were $475 per student, with additional siblings receiving discounted rates at $425 each. The fee for the 2026-2027 year will be announced soon.
Program fees help cover instruction, rental spaces, and music. Additional fees are required to participate in adjunct learning opportunities such as the Composition Program and Masterclasses.
The OSO can provide some financial assistance through bursaries for students to attend the program. Bursary applications can be completed at the time of registration.
Registration
Registration will open in August for those who were accepted at the auditions or are returning OSYO students. The link to the registration form will be sent to you via email.
