The Okanagan Symphony Society is a not-for-profit organization governed by the BC Societies Act. Our Board of Directors is made up of a group of community volunteers recruited for their special knowledge and expertise in many areas. It is with our Board’s skill and commitment that we are able to support the continued success of our orchestra.

Judy Burns
President

Judy Burns with her husband Graham, owned/operated a construction company, and self-owned/ operated a culinary school. She has also held several senior management positions in the cable television industry, including Shaw Communications and Moffat Communications. Following a move to Kelowna in 1993, Judy attained her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Okanagan University College (UBC). She also holds a degree in sports and leisure management from UBC. For over a decade she has volunteered with the OSO, organizing various fundraising events. She sings with the OSO chorus and joined the OSS Board in 2018.

As a lover of classical music, we had season’s tickets to the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra & I used to play the clarinet as a child & into my teens. With my background of over 20+ years in HR & management consulting, I enjoy volunteering on local Boards & giving back to the community.

My time volunteering includes Mount Royal College HR Advisory Board; Kelowna Yacht Club (KYC) Membership Committee; KYC Human Resources Ad Hoc Committee; KYC Hospitality Board (the for-profit side); Rotary Centre for the Arts (RCA) Board; & managing various soccer teams.

Micki Ruth
Director

With a significant background in HR, Micki Ruth brings a solid management approach to boards. Micki’s board experience is significant, in the Arts, nonprofit organizations and public safety. She is a former board member of Neptune Theatre in Halifax, the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, and the Edmonton Recital Society and participated as a member of the Halifax Regional Municipality’s Board of Police Commissioners. Micki is currently on the board of the Canadian Association of Police Governance (CAPG), and the John Howard Society of Okanagan and Kootenay.

Trevor Johnson
Director

Trevor Johnson is a Chartered Professional Accountant and the Controller for a local construction and mining company; Arthon Constructors Corp. He has 10+ years as an accountant in both private and government roles. Trevor has a science degree in economics from the University of Saskatchewan and a business diploma from Okanagan College. He is also a fully trained firefighter. In his youth, Trevor studied violin and viola with Ashley Kroecher (principal violist with the OSO). Trevor first moved to the Okanagan in 1996.

Alexis MacMillan
Director

Alexis MacMillan runs her own instructional design and eLearning development business, Micro Learning Bursts, in Kelowna. Alexis has designed a number of award-winning programs for clients such as Parks Canada and the United Nations (UN). She has been recognized as one of Canada's top 100 women business owners by PROFIT Magazine's W100 list for three consecutive years. Alexis has a passion for live music and is an amateur pianist herself. She believes in the critical importance of helping musicians bring their artistry and talent to the stage, especially here in the Okanagan.

Angie Garg, a recently retired senior business leader in Energy and Resources, brings a wealth of knowledge from over three decades in strategy, business development, projects, and operations. With experience as a corporate board member, Angie excels in corporate governance and alliance building. Beyond her professional achievements, she channels her passion into supporting Kelowna's arts and culture, championing the continued growth and success of the OSO for the benefit of the community's cultural landscape.
