About the 2026 School Show

The Symphony Tells a Story

This engaging orchestral performance, conducted by the OSO’s new Music Director Julian Pellicano, is designed to captivate young audiences while introducing them to storytelling through music. The program features iconic classical works such as the exhilarating finale of Rossini’s William Tell Overture, the dramatic opening of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, and the whimsical Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker. At the heart of the show is The Hockey Sweater by composer Abigail Richardson, a musical adaptation of Roch Carrier’s beloved Canadian tale, celebrating themes of identity, community, and childhood. The concert concludes with selections from John Williams’ Star Wars score, including “Princess Leia’s Theme” and the “Main Title,” adding a cinematic flair to this rich musical journey. This performance offers a dynamic blend of culture, history, and imagination—perfect for sparking curiosity and musical appreciation in students.

“I loved the music, especially when I closed my eyes. The drums looked like fireworks exploding when I heard them with my eyes closed.”
