Maria Fuller is a Canadian conductor praised for her “subtle control, careful focus and thorough professionalism” by the Chronicle Journal, and described as “fiery and dynamic” by The Walleye Magazine. Known for her infectious energy and versatility, Fuller performs internationally as a conductor, pianist and trumpeter. She is also an acclaimed vocal coach, award-winning composer and sought-after arranger.
In the 2024/25 season, Fuller served as guest resident conductor at Teatr Wielki in Łódź, Poland, where she led productions of Madama Butterfly, Hansel und Gretel and Morze. She also worked at the National Theatre in Prague as assistant conductor for Manon Lescaut. In 2025/26, she joins the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège in Belgium as assistant conductor.
Fuller was selected by Yannick Nézet-Séguin for a mentorship, attending rehearsals with him and the Orchestre Métropolitain in Montreal. In March, she was featured as Opera Canada’s “Artist of the Week,” recognizing her rapid rise in the operatic world across North America and Europe.
She is co-founder and music director of Ammolite Opera in Calgary, AB, alongside Tayte Mitchell. The company highlights Western Canadian talent and presents works by living composers. In its inaugural season, Ammolite Opera received four Betty Mitchell Award nominations, including one for Fuller’s musical direction.
In 2023, Fuller was a finalist and multi-award winner at the 11th Grzegorz Fitelberg International Conducting Competition in Poland. She also represented Canada at the inaugural La Maestra International Conducting Competition in Paris in 2021.
Her Canadian orchestral debuts include performances with the Victoria, Winnipeg, Kingston and Hamilton symphony orchestras, as well as New Music Concerts Toronto and the Music Niagara Festival. She has assisted with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, National Arts Centre Orchestra, Symphony Nova Scotia, Pacific Opera Victoria and Manitoba Opera. Recent engagements include debuts with the Kamloops, Guelph and Calgary symphony orchestras, and work with the Kingston, Regina and Saskatoon orchestras. This concert is her debut with the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra.
Fuller studied conducting at the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati under the mentorship of Mark Gibson. She holds a Bachelor of Music in piano from McGill University, a Master of Music in piano and an Artist Diploma in operatic coaching from the College-Conservatory of Music.
