Nadège Foofat is a conductor, violinist, violist, and advocate for innovation in thought, action, music and culture. She is the Founder and Artistic Director of Classical at the MSV.
Born in Calgary, Nadège grew up in a home filled with music, dance and visual art. An accomplished musician at a young age, she was principal viola of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada at age 14, and invited to attend the Juilliard School at age 16.
Over the past decade, Nadège has conducted across Canada, the USA and Europe. Her collaborations include recording a new song cycle for coloratura soprano Fotina Naumenko, as well as writing and recording arrangements for pop star Natalie Merchant.
From 2009-2014, Nadège was the Founder and Director of the Esopus Chamber Orchestra, a twenty-five-member award-winning professional chamber orchestra based in the Hudson Valley, New York. During this time, she was also Associate Conductor for Naxos’s recording of Milhaud’s L’Orestie d’Eschyle, which was nominated for a 2015 GRAMMY® Award (Best Opera Recording). Nadège was recognized in 2018 by the League of American Orchestras for her “experience, talent, leadership potential, and commitment to a career in service to American orchestras” with a Bruno Walter Award and a debut with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra.
Nadège holds a Doctorate from the Université de Montréal and a Diploma from the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana in conducting, and a Master of Music degree from Yale University School of Music and Bachelor of Music degree from The Juilliard School in viola performance.
